DRAG
A joyful open air plaza project that has seen an unremarkable car park breeding antisocial behaviour reimagined into a diverse public realm for the community.
The design cleverly solved two client objectives: the creation of a safe and flexible public open space, while providing increased local car parking. Two floors of parking are under the square, and the edges of the square are raised to form streetscapes, creating an ‘interior’ landscape sanctuary.
The Park above comprises nine themed spaces, including a ‘Forest’, ‘Sensory Garden’, ‘Lawn’ and ‘Terrace’ facing a central square.
A great model for change – it prioritises pedestrians by locating cars underground and returns valuable open space to people.
